Submerged Roads Program

Texas Engineering Firm F-22297

Mr. Timothy Martin managed the structural evaluation of 238 miles of submerged roads in Louisiana due to Hurricane Katrina for the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LADOTD).  The project consisted of deflection testing, ground penetrating radar, Dynamic Cone Penetrometer testing along with coring at selected locations to determine the pavement layer thickness and the extent of structural damage.

The data and resulting analysis of the pavement structure at submerged and unsubmerged sections allowed LADOTD to evaluate the amount damage due to Hurricane Katrina resulting in over $100 million in FEMA funding.
