Mr. Timothy Martin was retained by Intertek-PSI to provide pavement engineering services for an unsolicited project to rehabilitate and widen Segment 2E of the North Tarrant Expressway. The Project consists of approximately 8 miles of SH-183 as well as sections of SH-360 and SH-161 south of DFW airport in Euless and Irving, Texas.
Scope of work included the development of rehabilitation designs of the existing composite pavement consisting of an HMAC overlay over Continually Reinforced Concrete Pavement (CRCP). Options included reconstruction, widening and rehabilitation for the general purpose, managed lanes and frontage roads.
Flexible pavement designs for new construction as well as rehabilitation of the composite pavement were developed using PaveXpress, which is based on the AASHTO 1993 design procedures. Life Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA) was conducted utilizing FHWA’s Realcost software version 2.5 and the prescribed inputs as per TXDOT’s Pavements Life Cycle Cost Analysis Guide.
