Mr. Timothy Martin was retained by Balcones Geotechnical to perform a pavement evaluation and preliminary pavement design for the SH 360 South project for the HDR/Balfour Battey team. Scope of work included document review and a structural and functional evaluation of the existing continuously reinforced concrete pavement and pavement thickness designs for main lanes, frontage roads, cross streets and temporary roadways.
Deflection and profile testing was conducted and analyzed to assess the remaining life of the pavements and develop a maintenance and rehabilitation plan. Coring was conducted to verify pavement thickness and material properties. TXDOT TSLAB software was utilized for the CRCP pavement designs during the proposal phase. TXDOT’s FPS-21 flexible pavement design software was utilized to develop alternative perpetual pavement designs. Designs were conducted for a range of traffic loading conditions and subgrade soil conditions.
